Steam comment limit: "You've been posting too frequently"
How many comments Steam lets you post, why you see "posting too frequently" or other comment errors, and how long to wait.
Updated November 3, 2026
Steam limits how many comments one account can post, to keep spam bots out. Hit the limit and Steam refuses your next comment, usually with a message that you've been posting too frequently and can't make another post right now. Here's how the limit works and how long to wait.
How many comments can you post?
Steam doesn't publish the exact numbers, and they may change, but this is what we see every day on Rep4Rep:
- About 10 profile comments in any 24 hours per Steam account.
- It's a rolling window, not a daily reset: each comment frees up its slot 24 hours after you posted it.
- Bursts count too. Several comments within a minute or two can trigger the message even when you're under the daily number.
Deleting a comment you posted doesn't give the slot back: it still counts until it's 24 hours old.
Why you see "posting too frequently"
- You've posted around the daily number of comments in the last 24 hours.
- You posted several comments very quickly.
- You kept retrying a comment that didn't go through. Every attempt can count.
Other comment problems
- There's no comment box on the profile. The owner set comments to Friends Only or Private, so only friends, or nobody, can comment.
- Your account is limited. Accounts that haven't spent $5 on Steam can't use many community features, which can include commenting.
- Your account is community banned. A community ban blocks comments everywhere. Check any profile with the Steam VAC Ban Checker.
- The comment posted, but shows "awaiting analysis". That's a different thing: Steam's content check is holding it back. Read what "awaiting analysis" means.
- A general error. Steam is sometimes just busy. Wait a few minutes before you try again, so the retries don't eat into your limit.
How long to wait
If you only posted a few comments quickly, a few minutes is usually enough. If you've used up the daily number, you get a new comment each time one of your comments from yesterday turns 24 hours old.
Making the most of your comments on Rep4Rep
Rep4Rep counts the comments you post from each of your Steam profiles and shows when your next one frees up, so you don't waste attempts on a profile that's at its limit. Each Steam profile has its own limit, so you can add more than one.
