Steam formatting tags

Steam doesn't use buttons or Markdown for formatting: you type tags in square brackets around your text. The same tags work in profile comments, your profile summary, reviews, guides and discussions, though not every text box supports all of them.

Tag What it does
text Bold text
text Italic text
text Underlined text
[strike]text[/strike] Text with a line through it
text
Hidden until someone hovers over or clicks it
text
A large heading (
and
are smaller ones)
text A link with your own text

one
two
A bulleted list; [olist] makes a numbered one
text
A quote, with the name of who said it
text
Fixed-width text that keeps its spacing
text Shows the tags inside as plain text

A horizontal line

[th]A[/th]

1

A table with header cells ([th]) and cells ()

Tips for formatted comments

 • Keep it short. A heading and a line of bold text stand out; a wall of tags looks like spam.
 • Close every tag you open, or the rest of the comment picks up the formatting.
 • Go easy on links and big blocks of symbols: Steam is more likely to hold those back for review.
