How Steam levels work

You level up on Steam by earning XP, and almost all of it comes from badges. Each level costs more than the last: levels 1 to 10 take 100 XP each, levels 11 to 20 take 200 XP each, levels 21 to 30 take 300 XP each, and so on.

  • Game badges: collect a full set of a game's trading cards and craft the badge. Each badge level is 100 XP, up to level 5, plus one foil badge.
  • Event and sale badges: Steam's seasonal sales often have a badge you can level up by taking part.
  • Community badges: one-off badges for things like setting up your profile, writing a review or joining a group.
  • Years of Service: a badge that grows with your account's age.

What a higher level gets you

  • More friends: every level raises your friend limit by 5.
  • Showcases: your first profile showcase at level 10, and another one every ten levels.
  • Booster packs: every ten levels improves your chance of a free card booster pack drop.
  • A profile that stands out: a higher level gets a more striking badge next to your name, and people notice it.
